The TLV for chemical substances is defined as a concentration in air, typically for inhalation or skin exposure. Its units are in parts per million (ppm) for gases and in milligrams per cubic meter (mg/m ) for particulates such as dust, smoke and mist. The basic formula for converting between ppm and mg/m for gases is ppm = (mg/m^3) * 24.45 / molecular weight. This formula is not applicable to airborne particles. WebNov 7, 2024 · The TLV-STEL is considered a supplemental measurement to the TLV-TWA for an 8 hour workday. Any exposures above 1ppm in this case (the TLV-TWA 8-hour for hydrogen sulfide) and up to 5ppm (the TLV-STEL), should be less than 15 minutes and occur no more than 4 times per day.
