WebAug 8, 2007 · Especially ones made in former East Germany. The thing is that if the speaker has some (even minor) issue in the 4-8kHz octave, it will be amplified to too obvious levels. Simple test I suggest, is to plug a pair of known to be smooth headphones to the system, and see if the same amount of sibilance is there in the chain before the speakers. Anyways at its purest form, sibilance is just the result of hightened frequency response in the area of 7-8khz. However, it's every bit as much a problem with original mastering and recording as it is with the speakers/headphones when playing the music.

Adding an Audience Forte F3 power cord and then the iFi AC iPurifier combined to put my system into brightness overload. The power cord stays, though, because it does not exaggerate sibilance.
