WebThe High Line in New York is an example of the city’s redeveloping its older infrastructure into public space. In the 1930s a train track was raised to a level of 10 metres on the west side of Manhattan in the largest industrial district. This was done at a time when the safety in the traffic-filled streets could no longer be guaranteed. WebFrom relic to gem, the High Line has been turned into one of the most pioneering public spaces in New York City. What was once a decrepit railway line has now been transformed into a park that offers locals and out-of-towners a chance to get away from it all and admire public art, gardens, and city views in every direction.
