Webgit-recover looks for files in the object database that are not committed (or in the index). You can find out more about git-recover in the blog post announcing it. A very late answer that could simplify (a lot? comparing to other answers) the recover using the command line by letting you figure it out quicker which blobs should be recovered: Webgit fsck --lost-found will save recovered blobs into .git/lost-found/other After you know which file you'd like to restore run: git show 15cb2316b079df7890a28bab1389c87d37de4da3 > recovered.zip If you're interested in more precise tool for backup&recovery be sure to check out Git Backup 2 [deleted] • 1 yr. ago [removed] More posts you may like

When you do a reset, the commit you threw out goes to a “dangling” state. It’s still in git’s datastore, waiting for the next garbage collection to clean it up.
