Ford numbers reflect more realistic number at RPM you would use while driving or towing. Both these straight six are very smooth very reliable engines with a useful broad torque band and neither is a god rod dragster engine. WebThe latter 300 six or the Ford 4.9 inline 6 as it later came to be known was even offered with fuel injection all the way through the 1990s. WebDec 16, 2010 · To me; any 6 cylinder engine, straight 6 or V-6 sounds like it needs two more pistons and I have owned the Chevy V-6 and Ford V-6 and five 300ci / 4.9L engines and have heard many 6 cylinder engines with no muffler or with straight pipes and the sound is not enjoyable. My next engine will be a 5.8L 351 Windsor, but that is years away.
